Having been exposed to the home of art and nightlife scenes in Germany; business school graduate, Nomina, an upcoming artist with a breathtaking charismatic and unique outstanding voice has finally decided to take that leap and pursue music as a career.

Based in Germany, Pamela Bhulu better known as Nomina is an Afro (RnB- Pop) Singer Songwriter & Entertainer combining modern music with comprehensive African Sounds and rhythms. She started music during her days at Ledumang Senior, though at the time it was more for pleasure and play. In 2002 Nomina relocated to Germany to further her studies, but she would later find a niche in the entertainment industry.

Now fluent in German, in 2006 Nomina was selected for a solo in music theatre during the casting of King of the Moon and others. She was still studying by then, and due to that fact, she missed out on the opportunity. In 2013 however, she decided to fall back in music and started off with a cover of Yvonne Chaka- Chaka’s ‘Mama Land.’ She did not release it instantly until late 2015 while she was visiting her grandparents in Zimbabwe where she has roots. A mediocre video of the song ultimately went viral on social media reaching 2.4 million views in a month. The pressure piled on her daily to pursue music seriously as she could see how people were anticipating for her to deliver more music.

“I was pushed to do music and now I am working on my debut album,” she said. Her first single was titled ‘Don’t Cry Africa’ and the video was shot in Mogobane, just a few kilometers from Gaborone. Through the video, she wanted to market the country to the outside world. The songstress uses her vernacular language of Setswana and English despite the fact that she is fluent in German.

Nomina and her German Manager Stefan Lembert said they are currently not signed by any record label and they are financing everything from their own pockets. Lembert said even though they are still working on the debut album which is due on April 2018, her artist has been enjoying some airplay in most of the radio stations in Germany. She recently opened for the African Weeks in Germany and won many hearts.

While commenting on the cultural differences and music, Nomina said everything about German music is that people work systematically “but music is music at the end”. However she expressed concern that Botswana has no musical theme. “We rely solemnly on South African sound; we have to create our own sound just like Nigeria,” she said. She also pointed out that the reason why Germany is succeeding is because half of the producers are from Indonesia.

Her second single is entitled ‘How Could You Lie’ produced by Orchidan Waworka and it is a song that portrays sorrow, disappointments, betrayal from those we trust and love, according to Nomina. “It could be our Beloved ones, the society, our leaders or the system but somehow we manage to dust ourselves up and pick up the pieces, mend our hearts and find strength to move on.” Nomina pours out her heart and tells her story but at the end the question is: How do you get over the big lie in your life?
